MEASURING GUIDELINES

Always use a metal tape measure, measure to the nearest millimetre and measure at three points to check for variations as windows and floors are rarely perfectly square. Once you have your measurements, click here to go back to the contact form or call us on 01263 732524.

NO HARDWARE FITTED

If there is no pole or track in place measure the width of the window excluding any frame or moulding and add 15-30cm each side to give space for the curtains to stack back off the window. This will give the finished length of the pole required, excluding finials.

Set the track or pole 10-15cm above the window.

CURTAIN POLES: WIDTH

Measure the length of the pole, (excluding finials or decorative ends), not the window itself.

Measure the returns, this is taken from the centre of the eyelet at the bottom of the ring back to the wall. This measurement allows us to make the returns on your curtains long enough to sit flush back to the wall, blocking draughts and light. It also gives a very neat finish.

CURTAIN POLES: DROP PART 1

Measure the hook to hem- this is the measurement from the eyelet at the bottom of the ring to the finished hem of the curtains, ie. sill length or floor length. 

If choosing floor length please indicate if you wish the curtains to hang above the floor, (state by how much ie. 5mm, 1cm, 2cm etc), touching the flooring or kicking on the floor, (again, please state by how much).

Do not add extra for turnings, we will make this adjustment.

CURTAIN POLES: DROP PART 2

Measure the hook to top- this is the measurement from the eyelet at the bottom of the ring to the top of the curtain and can be 1-2cm if the curtain is to hang under the pole or longer if the curtain is to hang in front of the pole or is to have a stand up or frill.

CURTAIN TRACKS

These are measured in the same way as for curtain poles but using the eye of the glider instead of the eyelet at the bottom of the pole ring. Measure the entire length of the track. The return, hook to hem and hook to top guidelines still apply.

If the track has an overlap then measure the total track length and the overlap and then add together.

EYELET CURTAINS

Our eyelets will fit poles of up to 35mm in diameter with the inside top edge of the eyelet set 3cm down from the top of the curtain.

Width measure length of pole excluding finials.

Drop measure from the top of the pole to the hem, sill or floor length as previously stated, if choosing floor length please indicate if you wish the curtains to hang above the floor, touching the flooring or kicking on the floor. 

PELMETS OR VALANCES

In order to distribute pleating accurately we require the length of the front of the pelmet board/valance rail and the returns separately as shown on the right.

MEASURING FOR BLINDS

Blinds may be fitted to the inside or outside recess of a window. Blinds cannot be fitted to the inside reveal where the window opens in or the window is not square.

MEASURING FOR AN INSIDE RECESS BLIND

Width measure in three places, (top, centre, bottom) and take into account any tiles or dado rails. Note the narrowest measurement.

Drop measure in three places, (left, centre, right) and take note of the shortest measurement.

For the finished dimensions take 10mm off the width and 5mm off the drop.

MEASURING FOR AN OUTSIDE RECESS BLIND

Width measure the length of the sill and add 2-5cm each side or measure the width of the window excluding frame and add 5-10cm to either side.

Drop measure from 10cm above the window, (this can vary if you wish the blind to start higher or lower), to 1cm below the sill.
